Sunday March 12th
Jackson Trail from Jo Hays Vista

This trail is descr4ibed in the Mid State Trail guide as a "scenic shortcut" of the Mid State Trail and "very rocky".  Very rocky is an understatement. Basically, your hike consists of nothing but climbing over rocks, including three or four boulder fields. This is the hike that convinced me to cough up $130 for anti-impact trekking poles.

The scenery along this trail is nice, and I'm trying to figure out a way to continue on to the Mid State Trail from here, since it's supposed to be some of the best scenery in Central Pennsylvania.

The trail is only 2.87 miles long, but it seems like three times that, and on this first outing, the 35 degree wind didn't make it feel any better!

Pretty much Lori and I just hiked the length of it (it turns into the Mid State Trail and continues) and then backtracked to our car.  Two quarts of water was sufficient, along with some nice bagels, and we made the whole thing in about 4 hours.

Dinner at Champ's tasted very good that night.
