Sunday, May 27th 2001 I make it a point to get to Gettysburg at least once every year. This year, Memorial Day weekend seemed like a good time to go. Caledonia State Park is only 15 miles from Gettysburg, so I decided to camp out the night before--that way, I'd have more time to roam the battlefields. Lori came along. The park was especially nice, as state park camping goes. With running water, hot showers, and all the amenities of home for only $15. At the battlefields, I decided to head towards the field where George Pickett made his famous charge. The field is over a mile long, and took about 18 minutes to cover. We hiked it in reverse the first time, heading towards the mounted statue of Robert E. Lee. There is an observation tower about a mile away which gives some nice views of Little Round Top and the various fields in between, and after visiting it, we headed back up the way we came, heading uphill from Pickett's charge, and back to our car. Lori and I decided to head into town for some "touristy" time. I bought a confederate bullet and some other souvenirs, Lori got a maleted shake from a little soda shop, and we headed home.
